Allow Yourself to Fall for a Fall Wedding!

A summer wedding has traditionally been the choice for most engaged couples -- sunshine, colorful flowers, outdoor seating, and no heavy coats or sweaters. But these days, summertime is slowly having to share the spotlight as more couples choose to have their wedding in the fall. Even if you aren’t into spiced pumpkin everything…it’s still a delicious time for exchanging vows. There are many advantages to having a wedding in September, October, or November.

A little colder but just as beautiful.

If your fall wedding is early enough in the season, you can choose to have an indoor/outdoor option for added flexibility. Although good weather is never guaranteed, autumn light can be spectacular, with clear blue skies, perfect temperatures, and bright sunshine. The air is crisp, and guests can dress comfortably without worrying about wiping sweat off everyone’s brow or misting bouquets fading from the heat. And usually, it’s too early for a severe snowstorm to put a damper on the event. A venue with an indoor option can eliminate a lot of anxiety about the weather conditions and put the focus on more important things.

Then there’s the scenery. You can’t beat autumn for the breathtaking brilliance – especially in New England. What a fantastic backdrop colorful leaves make behind a stark white wedding dress and bright hues of the attendees. The photos almost become a no-brainer.

Your wedding party’s attire doesn’t need to stick to the typical autumn rust and mustard colors. It’s okay to be daring and add jewel-tone accents such as emerald or violet, mixed metallic, or a rich navy blue. Even your guests can get inspired by nature’s palette and look for velvety fabrics and soft knits in deep purple, rich brown, gold, and maroon.

A new season and a whole new color pallet!

If you plan on having your wedding during the off-season or shoulder season, many venues will have discounted rates and more availability than in the spring and summer. This can mean less expensive airfare for those coming from a distance. A fall wedding also means your guests won’t be off doing their summer vacation or having their wedding celebrations.

Your wedding menu can get inspiration from the incredible fall harvest and can be comforting and diverse. People love the comfort foods of fall, such as soups and bisques, root vegetables, apple tarts, warm cider, and warm chocolate drinks. Dare we say pumpkin spice wedding cake?

And when all is said and done, imagine riding off into the sunset together on a horse and buggy, hearing the horse’s rhythmic clippity-clop over crunchy autumn leaves while you sip hot apple cider along the way.
