Social Distancing?… There’s A Wine For That!

When you think of wine pairing, what comes to mind?…

If you’re like many, you’ll think of a fancy restaurant with a tender steak entreé or a succulent seafood appetizer. With the current state of restricted gatherings and closed restaurants, you may not be able to have a traditional wine and dine experience, but don’t fret! It might pleasantly surprise you to learn that your favorite wines can be just as delicious with the snacks you already have in your kitchen!

Here are some of our favorites!

Watching TV / Movies

With so many staying in their own homes, you may not be able to Netflix and chill, but you can certainly Netflix and chill your favorite wine!

A great way to connect with your friends and family during this time is to bond over your favorite shows and movies, and nothing says movies quite like popcorn. The savory taste of buttered popcorn goes wonderfully with the buttery oaky notes of a Chardonnay. The dry, medium to full-bodied wine will make your movie night extra special for the adults in the house. If you’re thinking of a movie night, you can watch your favorite shows with your friends by using a service such as Netflix Party to sync up your programs to watch together for free.

Pizza Delivery

Din-in restaurants may be closed, but if you’re in the mood for take-out, many restaurants have rolled out delivery services for their customers.

When you can’t be bothered to make dinner, a classic favorite is the good old-fashioned pizza. If you prefer cheese pizza, a great wine to pour would be a strong, rustic wine such as a Montepulciano. If pepperoni is more your style, the savory, cherry-tomato undertones of a Sangiovese will be right up your alley. No matter what you prefer, there are many wines that pair well with the distinctive taste of Italian food.

Grilling Indoors

Large family barbeques may be out the question, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the taste of your favorite grilled food.

So fire up the George Foreman and grab some wine and let’s get grilling! A full-bodied red wine such as a Syrah pairs wonderfully with grilled food. Its flavorful profile will complement grilled chicken, mushrooms, and other roasted food and bring your indoor barbeque to the next level.

Enjoy a Salty Snack

If you’re bored at home and find yourself in the mood for a bag of chips or pretzels, there’s even a pairing for that!

In fact, the light-bodied, slightly sweet flavors of Prosecco match up well against the saltiness of potato chips, tortilla chips, and pretzels. If you tend to live on the spicy side and want to heat things up with salsa, we’d recommend switching to the zestier, more acidic profile of a Sauvignon Blanc. So no matter which salty snacks give you satisfaction, you can indulge and make it even better with a delicious glass of wine.

Celebrating From Home

One of the best ways to stay connected and cheerful is to create special moments and share them with people we love. A great way to do this is to enjoy cupcakes with friends and family! If you have the means, you can even host a virtual party with video calling. While you’re at it, be sure to get a sweet wine to pair with your sweet treat such as a Moscato. All you’ll need to make your stay-at-home extravaganza perfect is to add sprinkles!

Excited to try these pairings from the comfort of your own home? Know someone who’d love some wine of their own?
