The time for cheer is here! It’s holiday time, and there’s no shortage of cocktail and dinner parties, work celebrations, special events, and other family and friend gatherings. You can kick back and relax with your thank you party for a year well done.
Mulled Wine
No wonder this spiced cocktail is a fallback favorite. It’s delicious, warming, and comforting. The recipe calls for a full-bodied bottle of red wine, so it makes enough for several guests (or for you to sip throughout the day.)
4 cups apple cider
750 ml bottle of red wine (try a nice Zinfandel or Pinot Noir)
¼ cup honey
juice and zest from 1 orange
2 cinnamon sticks
4 whole cloves
3-star anise
Bring ingredients to a slow boil, turn down the heat, simmer for about 10 minutes, and then pour into mugs. You can keep one warm in a slow cooker if you have one handy.
Simple Berry Sparkler
Tickle your nose and taste buds with this sparkler that’s easy to make and impressive to serve.
Pour 1 oz. Framboise or Chambord, and 1 oz. peach juice into a champagne glass.
Add about 3 oz. Prosecco
Top off with fresh berries for garnish
A Very Merry Manhattan
Up for something a little out of the ordinary? Try this twist on the classic cocktail.
2 oz. of red wine (A rich Cabernet Sauvignon would be perfect)
1 shot of bourbon or Cognac
1 shot of simple syrup
Shake, shake, shake with ice. Pour into a highball glass and add some fresh cherries, a maraschino cherry, and an orange slice for a garnish.
Kir
Enjoy this classic, two-ingredient cocktail!
Pour ¼ ounce crème de Cassis (black current liqueur) into a glass.
Slowly add 5 ounces of chilled white wine. (Choose a crisp, dry wine such as white Burgandy or Chablis)
Kick things up and make it a Kir Royale by adding Champagne instead of white wine.
Pomegranate Grapefruit Frosé
Sure, it’s an icy drink, but since it’s the season for pomegranate and grapefruit, this is a perfect time for this delightfully pink wine slushie.
In a blender, blend 3 oz. rosé (for this drink, use a non-sparkling rosé) 1 ounce of Pomegranate vodka, 1 ounce of red grapefruit juice, about ¼ ounces of fresh lemon juice, and ¼ ounces of simple syrup. Briefly blend. Then add a cup of crushed ice and blend until smooth.
Pour into a fancy glass, and top with berries, mint springs, or some pomegranate seeds.
