Everything is Rosy on National Rosé Day
Of course, we don’t need an excuse to enjoy a delicious rosé -many of us enjoy this beautiful wine all year round, but June 10th is designated as a special day to honor it in all its pink perfection. Celebrated every year on the second Saturday in June, this holiday was created in 2014 by Bodvár. They wanted to share their love of rosé, showcase their collection produced in the south of France, and have a day when rosé lovers could celebrate – and sip – together.
Rosé gets its luscious pink color from a process called maceration. It’s made from red grapes with their skins intact, and the wine ferments for a period of time with the skins on the grapes. After hours or days – depending on the style of wine -- the skins are removed, and the wine continues to ferment without them.
Have some friends over to taste different rosé paired with simple food. You can connect with loved ones far away by setting up a remote get-together. Plan which wines to get in advance, and compare notes as you enjoy them across the miles.
Like whites and reds, rosé can be sweet, fruity, dry, crisp, and even sparkling. Here are some popular options:
Whispering Angel (France) – Beautifully pale and crisp with peaches, melon, and strawberry notes. Pair it with a spring salad or light seafood dish.
Meiomi (California) – Light pink with a hint of spice and notes of citrus and watermelon. Serve this with a charcuterie board or light pasta salad.
LaMarca Prosecco (Italy) - Bright, crisp, fruity, and refreshing, this bubbly offers hints of citrus, honeysuckle, as well as cherry and strawberry notes. Pair with goat cheese and crackers or chocolate anything. You might want to try making some very simple yet delicious chocolate-covered strawberries.
Bread & Roses (Boston, MA) - Go local, and sip some of Boston’s finest rosé made by Boston Winery.
